What is an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)?

An Acceptable Use Policy is a written agreement that states rules of
good behavior that should be followed while using the school's
computers and Internet connection.

Each student and their parents should read the schools AUP.  If they agree
to follow the rules then they should sign the agreement form and give to the
school to keep in their records.

Students are not allowed to use the Internet before agreeing to follow the
rules and guidelines and submitting the signed agreement and their privilege
of using school computers will be taken away if the rules are not followed.

Why do we need an acceptable use policy?

Just like there are many good things on the Internet, there is also bad.
An acceptable use policy is like a red flag letting you know that you should
avoid the bad things on the Internet.  An example of a bad thing that can happen
is that if you give too much information about yourself to someone on the Internet,
they may find you and possibly hurt you.  This is why one of the rules when
using the Internet is not to give anyone information about yourself.

Can anyone tell if I am violating the school's AUP?

Yes.  The district has in place a way to see what sites you visit and at what time.
The district also screens your email for things like foul language.

Don't buy anything on the Internet.
Don't download software or music from the Internet and install on school computers.
